U.S. House introduces bipartisan resolution demanding return of abducted Ukrainian children before peace deal with Russia

This week, U.S. Representatives Michael McCaul and Gregory Meeks introduced a bipartisan resolution in the House of Representatives calling for the unconditional return of Ukrainian children illegally deported by the Russian Federation — a humanitarian priority that must be addressed before any peace agreement is finalized.

The resolution strongly condemns Russia’s mass abductions, deportations, and forced transfers of Ukrainian children — practices aimed at erasing their Ukrainian identity. It highlights violations of international law, including the Geneva and Genocide Conventions, and points to Russia’s documented use of child soldiers and re-education practices.

It also calls for the unconditional return of Ukrainian children as a core humanitarian priority — one that must not wait until peace is reached.

This initiative in the U.S. House follows a similar bipartisan resolution introduced in the Senate by Senators Chuck Grassley and Amy Klobuchar, demonstrating strong cross-party consensus and ongoing U.S. support for Ukraine’s efforts to bring its children home.

The Ukrainian side welcomes this clear and principled stance by the U.S. Congress, which reinforces the global demand for the return of abducted Ukrainian children.
